Install the Recapt Chrome extension, open any YouTube video, and click "Sign in with Google" in the sidebar. Once signed in, click "Generate Summary" to get your first AI summary.
Most issues with the extension — such as the sidebar not updating, buttons not responding, or content appearing incorrect — are resolved by simply refreshing the YouTube page (press F5 or Cmd+R). This reloads the extension alongside the page and clears any temporary state. If the issue persists after a refresh, try closing and reopening the YouTube tab.
The sidebar only appears on YouTube watch pages (youtube.com/watch?v=...). Make sure you're on a video page, not the homepage or a playlist. If it still doesn't appear, try reloading the page or restarting Chrome.
Summaries require the video to have captions/subtitles enabled. If the video has no captions, Recapt cannot generate a summary. Also make sure you are signed in — sign-in is required to use the AI features.
After signing in on the website, the extension syncs automatically within a few seconds. If it doesn't update, try clicking the extension icon (popup) to refresh. If the issue persists, go to chrome://extensions, find Recapt, and click the reload icon.
